Symptoms of a Diabetic Kitty
Common Symptoms of a Diabetic Kitty
Most of us know our pets and have been around them long enough to know their habits. If something is out of the norm we usually pick up on it right away, but in some cases it is not obvious to us. If something does not feel right about your pet, try paying a little more attention and look for some clues. Some of the symptoms of a Diabetic Kitty are mentioned below:
If your cat is showing some or all of these symptoms:
- Increased appetite
- Increased thirst
- Excessive urination (Check the Litter Box for Large Urine Clumps)
- Weight loss
- Flat-footed gait or stance
Then, there is a chance that your cat could be diabetic. Take them to the Vet before they lose too much weight.
In the earlier stages, increased appetite and weight loss are distinguishing characteristics of diabetes in cats. They remain active and alert with few other signs. As the disease progresses, poor hair coat and skin, liver disease, and secondary bacterial infections become more common.
Diabetes mostly occurs in older, obese cats, males more often than females. However my cat was only six years old when discovered. The exact cause of this disease is not known.
Remember a Professional Veterinarian needs to diagnose your pet. Never try to treat your pet until seen by a vet to confirm its illness. A lot of the symptoms are common to a number of different maladies your pet can have. The bottom line is Diabetes is NOT A DEATH SENTENCE for your pet. With the guidance of a Veterinarian, and your attentive care your cat can live a normal healthy life. Just be very attentive of its habits and make notes in order to help your Veterinarian to be able to properly treat your Diabetic Kitty.

[...] I’m sure it happens to a lot of them though. Thank God for loving owners who will work hard to keep them in good shape and be aware of their symptoms. Keeping a close eye on them and knowing the symptoms is key to keep our diabetic pets regulated.
