Introduce Your Pet
Hi,
My name is Steve and I have 2 cats Princess the Mom and Blacktop
the Son. They are approx. 10 and 9 years old as of 2010. Blacktop who is diabetic since the age of six is the reason I started this Blog. I give him 2 injections of insulin a day 12 hours apart. I feed them different food in different locations of the house. They are both accustomed to this and I have very few problems with this setup except for one. Princess has learned how to open the pantry door by herself via the door handle. When she does this it allows Blacktop to get in and get to her food which is a NoNo for him. I have a Video somewhere of her opening the door I’ll have to find one of these days. I am very attached to both of my cats…especially Blacktop as I give him his 2 shots a day. I have a picture of Blacktop at the bottom of the Home Page. He is quite the handsome cat…..lol. Please leave a comment here and introduce your pets.

I just had to take the opportunity to give tribute to a dear departed member of the family, our cat Penny Lane (aka Penny, aka The Flea). Penny passed away two weeks ago at the age of 14 due to complications from diabetes. We had her with us for 12 of her 14 years, adopting her when she was 2. She quickly became an important and treasured member of the family, and was sometimes almost more human than cat, like she was always striving to evolve and be more than what she was. She was highly intelligent and could easily communicate with body language or expressions alone. She and Will and I shared a strong emotional and spiritual bond with each other and her loss has been devastating for us.
But she was a strong personality and was in control up to the end, passing away peacefully in her sleep simply because she was ready (the vet said she could recover and we were determined to do anything we could to keep her alive). She made the decision to go on her own and did it in the way she knew would be easiest on us. She was our guardian and our friend and our dear family member, and now she is our guardian in heaven. We know she is still with us in spirit and that we will one day meet again. Until then, there will never be another cat like Penny, and though we have other cats, she was our first and will be first cat in my heart always.

Hi Stephanie,
I am truly sorry for your loss of your family member “Penny”. The lost of a dear pet is surely one of the most devastating times of our lives. Sometimes it helps to talk or write about them and tell the world about them. Sometimes others find peace from your writings. Feel free to post about Penny or anything else that helps you get through this terrible time.
I am Honored to post “Penny” (Penny Lane) picture here on http://www.DiabeticKitty.com

My daughter just recently brought home a baby kitten from Oklahoma when she visited her grandparents. We didnt realize that some of us actually had allergies (I have 6 kids) and we had to give the cat away within a week. It was the most exhilirating moment of our lives. I cant tell you how much joy, laughter, chaos, we all experienced with Alfie. My 3 and 5 year old got to spend more time with him cuz they are not in school. We found ourselves pleasantly surprised at how easily entertained the kids were…..they didnt even want to watch their endless brain-draining cartoons or even play video games…….that was AWESOME. They just wanted to play hide and seek with the cat. I wish there was a way to bring him back. On the other hand, there seems to be just a smidget less arguing over who gets to hold the cat now. Miss him already…..point is, I cant IMAGINE having a cat for a long period of time and suddenly one day they are not there with you anymore. One week was enough engender love for Alfie for us all. Hope you find peace and comfort.
